We stayed here for a wedding at Lake Ullswater. The camping field is large, had great views over the neighboring lake and was well maintained. There were a friendly Alpaca's wandering around the neighboring field which was entertaining. The toilet and shower facilities were very clean! (Showers cost 50 p but you could get change from the owners - don't be put off by this. It was worth it for the lovely warm water and very clean facilities!). I'd visit again.
Just returned from 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. Kids loved the site and adults did too. Great views across the lake. Portaloos are scattered around the site and larger block of toilets are at the top of the field. Alpacas roam the field to the side of the camp which made for interesting entertainment. Raised fires are allowed. It got very busy when we were there but there was always a toilet free. Kids play park was basic but the rope swing and trampoline were thoroughly enjoyed. There is access to the lake in the bottom field over the road which was perfect for launching canoes or small boats. Great spot for a swim too.
We stayed at this site for a four night stay we planned this camping trip for our sons 12th birthday I have to say I can not fault this site at all what more could you ask for stunning views not over crowed lovely helpful owners and free use of there very own launch pad we will definitely be going back to this site and doubt we will ever go to any other site around Ullswater excellent thank you so much
We decided to spend a short holiday in the Lake District
(family of four) over a long weekend. We were recommended the location by
Friends. The camping location had a
wonderful view (similar to going to the Cinema); what ever location on the
field you pitched you had a great view of the scenery. It does not have rows and rows of shower
blocks, bouncy castles or power pick up's etc
however, it also did not have wall to wall tents which we witnessed at
the other local campsites. As far as we were concerned it offered 'Great
value', clean and tidy camping with a great cinematic view of Ullswater. A Farm with a camp site - A little gem in the
Lakes - would recommend.
My husband and I stayed here for 5 days, a few weeks ago.
The campsites down the road were crowded and busy and gave us the fear. Dormont
Cross was a little haven for us; quiet, basic facilities (hot showers and water
at the sinks though) and the most stunning view over the lake from our position
on the elevated camping ground. Sitting outside in the evening watching the
sunset in the peace and quiet was bliss. We even had our own picnic table
outside our tent. The owners were really welcoming and helpful and great for
local info. There is a fantastic walk up the hills, starting directly behind
the farmhouse. We would head straight for this campsite if we visited the lakes
again. If you want a quiet , relaxing camp, this is the place.
Last weekend of the summer holidays and all the other
over sized, over organised campsites were brimming over. However at around 9:30
pm we happened across this little place, pitched tent and turned in. The next
morning we awoke to good views, alpacas and only five other groups on the whole
field. Facilities are basic (just what we were after) but perfectly good. The
camping site is simply a sloping grassy field. Owners were friendly and
helpful.
This camp site is fantastic for kids...lots to do, good entertainment for all the family. Take ways to take back to you tent or just eat in like i did. Would definitely recommend this a family holiday, I took my grandson Jack and he loved every minute of his first camping trip...will definitely take him again
I liked this campsite because it wasn't crowded like all
the others. The facilities were basic but bearable. The views were amazing! We
pitched on the hill to be away from families which was a bit uncomfortable when
sleeping. A large part of the field is flat though. We had two 4 man tents and
two 2 man tents, it cost £128 all together for two nights. Not bad between 7
people! A friendly middle aged couple own the site and run a farm next to
it. The site is right next to the river it's an easy walk to the shore. At the
entrance there is a sign directing campers to the bungalow to pay. Up the track
there is a tree swing and taps are dotted around so easy ti get water. Pooley
Bridge is about 3 km away.
We went to this campsite following reading the previous reviews and wanted to see for ourselves. It is on an elevated position with panoramic views on all sides with the lake and fells to the front and wonderful views of the fells behind. There are walks nearby and a 30 min walk into Pooley Bridge where there are shops and pubs. The facilities are very basic with one shower per male/female and an additional charge of 50 pence for 3 minutes ( not a good idea to have one when its dark!!) The campsite is on a working farm with cattle, sheep and alpaca's.
We stayed on the bank holiday. A large field and plenty of room to pitch up especially on a bank holiday weekend with no up front booking. You picked your pitch, it does slope but some areas are quite flat so no problem. Relaxed campsite with basic facilities and beautiful views. We met friends there as most campsites in lakes don't want groups of people. I don't think there was electric hook up but who cares if you are a proper camper! Camper vans and caravans were also there so u might need a generator.
This site must have one of the best views of Ullswater. The whole camping field slopes down towards the water, although there’s plenty of flat to pitch up. This means that where ever you site your tent you have a fantastic view of the lake. We spent the morning watching the Ullswater Steamers go back and forth. Overnight it was a little windy but as we only stayed for one night this could have been a one off. The toilets are clean, but a little dated, (that lost a star). We had wanted to stay in a more popular camp at the other end of the water but that was full. I’m glad we opted for Cross Dormont as the views were much better than others we have stayed in round the water. If you want simple no frills camping with a view to die for then this is your site.
