The bustling market town of Penrith is about 15 to 20 minutes drive away , or can be reached by the Royal Mail bus. Penrith offers a range of shops, many of which are quite unique, with themes reflecting the locality. Other amenities include restaurants, banks, and a town cinema.

Tuesday sees a traditional market in the town and a large market and car boot sale is held at the cattle mart on Saturdays.

A Lakeland visitor centre is situated to the west of the town.
